Three months ago my hard drive's IDE Controller went out and I had to replace it. It was only on my primary drive, and not anything else in my computer has had issues. I replaced the Maxtor with a new Maxtor and on Friday night I took the computer down so I could install some new hardware. Then when I started it up again I could tell from the thunk sounds and the hard drive stopping and starting that it is all starting again. I would like to say I am upset about it, but I am more concerned about getting my data off of this one as well. I would hate to lose some of that important stuff.
It is kind of annoying that this has happened twice, but to me it is either a short in the molex connector (Antec 400W Power Supply) or from the Motherboard (Soltek SL 75DRV5 Purple Ray) surging the damn thing because I haven't had issues with the secondary hard drive.
Solution: I am probably going to replace the Motherboard and mark the molex connector (for non-use). I am going to send in the hard drive because it is only three months old and still under warranty. I will probably buy a new hard drive at the same time, because I am going to need a second hard drive for my media center box.
I love computers sometimes.
