Comment Spam

This comment spam is KILLING me!  I am thinking of reinstating a small application I call the spammer.  It is how I lowered spammers on another application (guestbook for webwizforums).  Basically I disabled the url field, but I was still getting comments with URLs in the URL field.  After knowing that it was disabled, I came to the rationalization that a normal user cannot pass a url in the url field, therefore only spammers would be the ones trying to insert on that field.  (Of course this evolved to me also checking the comment field for URLs with an explicit warning to those that would sign the guestbook not to use a url).

Basically, instead of an insert it sends me a message with the information they would have put into the guestbook, then it redirects them to my spammer application.  On page load, the spammer application executes opening 3 different windows (browser windows that is) looping 400 times!  Each of these pages are opening at a very large height and width.  Each of these pages automatically pops up another 2-5 pages.  Each of the pages opens an additional 10-15 pages when you close them!   And just what is the content of these pages?   Well, men, and more...men.  *smiles*  You get the idea.  Most of the spam I got was for p*o*r*n, so I thought I would shove it back at them, just in a way I didn't think they would appreciate.

Testing this application with an AMD XP1900+ processor with 1GB DDR 2700 RAM it was impossible to close all of the windows (even after the grouping!) without going and killing the process.

And my web server is a much lower processor.  If only I had the same kind of processing power on it, I could do more damage on the machines of those who shouldn't using my applications for their unwanted advertisements.
