I was dragged along to a bridal show and fair with Brandi. Why? She wanted to go to win prizes. I tried to reason that it was a dumb reason and that I needed to study for my certification test on Tuesday. She wouldn't hear of it. So we went for an hour, but they were not drawing until around 2:30 and during the show part of the fair. We left and went home, much to Brandi's detriment. I explained that we couldn't possibly win the drawings; that I never win anything and neither does she. “I have a chance of like 1 in 1000 in winning. It will be a waste of precious time that could be spent studying.”
The result of my argument? We ended up going back, but I brought along my laptop so I could study while the show was going on. I thought that there was no way in hell we would win since I never do, and so I just drowned out what was going on (except during the parts where the models were wearing bikinis - hmmmm, I didn't know that was part of the show *smiles*) and continued to study.
And there I was sitting when I heard something about tuxedos and then “Rob....Rob Reynolds.” That...was...me. Once that soaked in, I stood up and started waving to get the announcer's attention (since you had to be present to win). I won five free tuxedo rentals for my wedding! That was the second biggest prize they gave away today (the highest was $1000 to a bride-to-be). I am amazed, yet wonder if it is something that was supposed to happen. You know, the guy that doesn't even want to be there wins the biggest groom prize. That's awesome for me though. $500 less that has to be spent on my wedding out of my pocket (or the pockets of my groomsmen).
